Multi Use Games Areas or MUGA’s as they are more commonly known provide the most flexibility for operators and can be surfaced in a wide range of products including porous macadam, polymeric rubber and synthetic grass. These areas are suitable for tennis, basketball, netball and 5-a-side football.
MUGA’s have become increasingly popular for use in schools and local authorities over the last few years because of the cost effective nature of construction, surface versatility combined with relatively low maintenance. This makes them a sound choice for schools that require a combination of their curriculum sports and play ground in one area.
MUGA’s can also be constructed with a view to a potential upgrade in the future, with the possibility of laying a new sand filled, sand dressed or 3rd Generation artificial turf over the existing surface.
Surface Finishes for MUGA’s are numerous and normally come under the following categories:
Synthetic grass is a far better solution when compared to porous macadam. Synthetic grass provides a more forgiving surface especially with the introduction of an additional shock absorbent layer installed beneath the synthetic grass surface.
A polymeric rubber surface is installed onto a new or existing porous macadam base. The polymeric surface is made up of an in-situ laid rubber base mat finished with a coloured texturised rubber spray coat. Line markings for the required sports can also be marked into the synthetic surface using a hard wearing polyurethane paint. Polymeric surfaces provide a good level of resilience and low maintenance.
This surface provides maximum durability with minimum maintenance and a wide range of uses. Porous macadam can be marked for the sports required or spray coated in a range of different coloured paints to provide improved aesthetics. Depending on the type of paint used, the level of slip resistance can be controlled. A painted macadam MUGA can also be upgraded with other types of synthetic surfaces at a later date to improve the performance.
Agripower Contractors also offer a number of fencing systems including chain link, weld mesh and a more robust rebound mesh and kickboard system which can incorporate division netting if and when required as well as floodlighting.
